Job Seeker Services Coming to Clover and Surrounding Areas

Reaching into the rural areas of York County has been top of mind for SC Works Catawba, the region’s reemployment system. Job seekers in some of those rural pockets of York County will soon have close access to job seeker services.

York County Business Retention & Expansion Manager Teresa Curtice introduced Clover Town Administration Allison Harvey to SC Works Operator and Project Director Lynn Hall. Through their common goal the plan to bring job seeker services to rural York County is finally a reality.

“Our goal is to help our people get into good jobs,” Harvey said. “In doing so we partnered with Clover School District for a location. I’m pleasantly surprised how easy it came together. It’s certainly a fine example of seeing a need and everyone working together to get it addressed.”

Beginning Wednesday, March 27, 2019, Clover and the surrounding areas will have an SC Works Express at Clover’s Tri-District Adult Education, 420 Knox Street. Hours will be Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., except for school holidays and designated outreach hours, to be determined.

“During the first six weeks we’re going to gauge response from the community,” Lajuana Denesha, Career Readiness Coordinator said. “We will be providing job search and resume assistance, possible training opportunities, as well as helping them file for unemployment if needed.”

Denesha will also offer Job Endurance Training (JET), a soft skills workshop where job seekers can gain employability skills such as decision making, problem solving and time management. The JET certification is recognized by many area employers.

Job seekers may use this opportunity to connect with other SC Works services or get referred to partnering agencies such as Young Adult Works, Veterans Services or Vocational Rehabilitation.

Area businesses will find value in SC Works Express. A business that connects with the Business Solutions Team may place job openings in the state database. There may be opportunities for local businesses to host hiring events through the SC Works Express.
