Public Comment Sought for Two Projects Recommended for Federal Lands Access Program Funding

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is seeking public comment for two projects in Greenwood and York counties recommended to receive Federal Aid Lands Access Program (FLAP) funding. Created under the “Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act” (MAP-21), FLAP is a new program that provides funding for projects that are located on, adjacent to, or that provide access to federal lands.

Projects identified to receive FLAP funding include:

• Greenwood County – Resurface SC 248 and provide paved shoulders from US 178 to S-24-72
• York County – Resurface SC 161 and provide paved shoulders from the South Carolina state line to SC 55

FLAP funding is in addition to the Federal-Aid Program and requires 20% state/local match participation. Total available funding (including match) for Fiscal Year 13-14 is approximately $3,000,000.
