Silicone parts maker to bring 50 jobs to York

Silcotech North America Inc., a manufacturer of silicone components, is coming to the East York Industrial Park.

The company will invest $3.5 million in an injection molding plant that will employ as many as 50 people in three to five years.

“We are excited about locating our new facility in York County,” said Michael Maloney, president of Silcotech North America. “South Carolina has the right mix of business-friendly climate, skilled workforce and market access we were looking for in establishing a new facility. We appreciate all the support we’ve received from state and local officials.”

The planned 18,000-square-foot “clean room” facility is expected to be operating by July. Construction is expected to start in October.

Silcotech also has operations in Canada and India.

Silcotech produces specialized silicone components for the medical, automotive, consumer electronics and solar industries. Some of the company’s customers are in the region and that was one factor in moving to South Carolina, Maloney said.

The company also considered locations in North Carolina, Vermont and New York, Maloney said.

People interested in working for Silcotech should apply online between January and March. Résumés should be sent to Isolde Boettger at iboettger@silcotech.ca.

The company is looking for people with manufacturing, molding and tooling experience.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved a grant of $160,000. ReadySC, a division of the S.C. Technical College System, will provide pre-employment training.

Maloney said the training assistance was a key factor in the company’s decision to choose the York location.

In December, the York County Council approved a fee-in-lieu agreement to reduce the company property taxes by 43 percent over the next 30 years.
