WIA – 4th Annual Youth Forum

The 4th Annual Youth Forum sponsored by the Catawba Workforce Investment Board was held on Friday, May 2, 2014. Resolute Forest Products, Inc. hosted the event. The half day event included a guest speaker, lunch, workshops and door prizes. Active and follow up youth in the Catawba area’s youth programs were invited to participate.
Bobby Bailey, Director and Founder of Adopt-a-Mentor Foundation, a non-profit agency which serves young, at-risk males, provided the inspirational keynote address. Mr. Bailey encouraged the participants to become and adopt the attitude of a “hero.” He emphasized the importance of “finding the Hero within Your Self.”
Participants attended three workshops – “Hire Me”, “Social Media” and “Employability Skills”. Lunch and door prizes were donated by local businesses, the Youth Council, Workforce Investment Board Members and Youth Providers.
Case managers for each youth provider recognized outstanding students that went above and beyond the requirements of the WIA program. Each student received a plaque for their exceptional accomplishments.
The annual youth forum was an awesome success. Students and staff feedback was extremely positive. Both expressed how much they enjoyed the keynote speaker’s message and the lessons learned from attending the workshops.
