Fifty new jobs are coming to the Jonesville area.
In a statement released Wednesday, Dollar General announced that it is expanding its commitment to the Jonesville community by adding 50 new positions to its local distribution center. These are in addition to the more than 6,000 jobs previously announced by Dollar General for 2011.
“Dollar General is happy to expand our family of employees here in Jonesville,” said Bob Barnes, manager of Dollar General’s Jonesville distribution center. “This is a great place to work and grow. Anyone looking for an exciting opportunity with a fast-paced company should consider applying for a position at our distribution center.
The distribution center currently employs 475 associates. The 50 new positions will be in the warehouse.
Dollar General offers competitive wages and benefits, including medical coverage and paid vacation time. The available general warehouse positions’ hourly rate starts at $11.75 an hour and are eligible for pay increases up to $13.25 at one year of service along with bonus eligibility.
Jobseekers may apply in-person at the distribution center office located on 1451 Spartanburg Highway. Applications are available Monday-Friday, 8 a.m-5 p.m. in the distribution center office.
Union County Supervisor Tommy Sinclair welcomed the announcement, pointing out that the new jobs will help reduce the county’s unemployment rate which currently stands at 16.7 percent.
“Fifty new jobs is 50 new jobs,” Sinclair said. “You add 100 here, 100 there, 50 here, 50 there and that’s how you reduce unemployment, one small bite at a time. The chances of us getting a large industry that would wipe out our unemployment is just unlikely. It is not the business model people use today because automation allows more productivity with less people. So we’re excited, 50-100 jobs is good news for us.”
Sinclair added that the jobs will bring benefits such as health insurance which will help improve health care in the county.
Also welcoming the news was Union County Development Board Director Andrena Powell-Baker who described it as a sign of the company’s commitment to local growth.
“The announcement that Dollar General is creating 50 new jobs at their Jonesville, SC facility is very exciting,” Powell-Baker said. “This demonstrates that they are committed to growing their business in Union County. We support their efforts and we look forward to their continued success in our community.”
