Additional Incumbent Worker Training Funds Received

The Catawba Regional Workforce Investment Board has received and made available to local businesses and industries an additional $100,000 for training their current workforces under the Incumbent Worker Training Grant Program.  A total of nine companies have applied for these additional funds to train workers in basic computer skills, supply chain management, leadership development, engineering systems and maintenance troubleshooting skills, value stream mapping, Lean manufacturing principles, communication skills, and others.

A total of twenty-two area businesses have taken advantage of the Incumbent Worker Training Grant Program during the last year.  Some 550 workers have gained new skills or have enhanced current skills through the additional training.

2011-2012 Incumbent Worker Training Grant Applications Are Being Accepted

New Incumbent Worker Training Grant funds will be available on July 1, 2011 for employers to provide additional training for their existing workforces.  Incumbent Worker Training (IWT) addresses training needs to meet changing skill requirements caused by new technology, retooling, new product lines and new organizational structuring. 

Applications from businesses will be accepted beginning April 15th, 2011 through June 15th, 2011.  Companies that have been located in South Carolina for at least one year, have a minimum of one employee, and are current on all South Carolina taxes are eligible to apply.  Application forms and guidelines may be downloaded from www.catawbaonestop.com website.  For more information, please visit www.catawbaonestop.com or contact the Business/ Industry Services office at 803-327-9041, TTY: 711.
