In November of 2014, Lancaster County was awarded a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) through the SC Department of Commerce Grants Administration Office for improvements in the Midway neighborhood. A portion of the neighborhood also lies within the City of Lancaster. This grant will go toward upgrades that include demolition of three vacant and dilapidated properties, new sections of sidewalk on portions of Hunter Street and Barron Blvd., and 3,400 lineal feet of gravity sewer lining. Lancaster County will also be providing the equipment and labor to clear a total of six overgrown lots in the neighborhood. The City of Lancaster will be committing $97,825 to go towards engineering fees and sewer upgrade costs.
