SCDOT seeking public comment on four projects that have been awarded 2012 Discretionary Grant Funding

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is seeking public comment on four (4) projects that have been awarded 2012 Discretionary Grant Funding from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) prior to their consideration for inclusion in the South Carolina Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).

FHWA awarded grants for the following projects:

• Road S-770 Bridge Replacement over Hanging Rock Creek, Lancaster County – The project will receive a $245,000 Innovative Bridge Research and Deployment Program Grant to fund construction of a replacement bridge of prefabricated concrete units for a total length of 220 feet. The replacement bridge will be constructed on the existing alignment during a roadway closure.
• Santee National Wildlife Refuge, Ft. Watson Road Primary Public Access Road Safety Improvements, Clarendon County – The project was awarded a $430,000 Public Lands Highway Grant to fund the rehabilitation of 1.1 miles of asphalt-surfaced road and parking areas that serve as the entrance to the Santee National Wildlife Refuge located in Clarendon County.
• Cherokee Foothills Byway Viewshed Protection, Pickens County – This project will receive $197,725 in National Scenic Byway Grant funds and $118,460 in matching local funds to place property into a land trust and conservation easement to protect more than a mile of byway frontage along one of the most scenic stretches of the Cherokee Foothills Byway.
• UUS 17 Median Consolidation Project in Georgetown County – This project was awarded a $1,250,000 Transportation, Community and System Preservation Program Grant to fund the replacement of a two-way left turn lane with a non-traversable median, the installation of traffic calming techniques, and the implementation of intersections throughout the project corridor.
