Stanley Black & Decker will build a new DeWalt hand tools plant in York County, bringing 500 jobs to the Fort Mill area.
The Charlotte Business Journal reported in May that the toolmaker was eyeing northern York County for a huge tool plant as the company worked to reshore production of its DeWalt and other brands of its hand tools.
The Stanley Black & Decker plant will represent a $31 million investment for the Connecticut-based company. The 345,000-square-foot plant will be built in Lakemont Business Park, a Crescent Communities development.
Jeff Ansell, Stanley Black & Decker global tools and storage president, says the new plant will be one of 30 Stanley Black & Decker plants that make a variety of branded tools.

Brian Leary, president of commercial and mixed-use projects at Crescent Communities, says the Stanley Black & Decker has had a “working relationship” with Crescent.
“This is once again proof positive that Lakemont’s outstanding location offers blue-chip institutions like Stanley Black & Decker superior access to the region’s transportation network and employment base,” Leary says.
DeWalt hand tools are being assembled in a 500,000-square-foot plant in southern Mecklenburg County. It was unclear whether the new facility would replace that production facility.
Britt Blackwell, chairman of the York County Council, says it makes sense that Stanley Black & Decker will build in the Fort Mill area.
“We are thrilled to have this global manufacturer expand their footprint here in York County, and we look forward to the 500 jobs it will bring to our area in the years to come,” he says.
